I've got a whole bucket of secrets to spill and it's killing me. I'm TERRIBLE at keeping secrets. All will be revealed soon, pinky promise.
For now, I can finally announce that as of 3:45pm last Friday, I'm officially a full time, self-employed blogger. (!!!!!!!!!!)
I'm equal parts ecstatic and terrified. I have a degree in anthropology, not business. Trying to make sure I'm doing all of the very official business parts of being self-employed is a little overwhelming to think about, but I'm sure I can learn how to be official and business-y as I go.
It became crystal clear that this was the right move after I returned from Alt Summit. Actually - my husband is the one who knew it first. I came home from Alt Summit ready to accept a very well paying corporate job that would have been safe and secure. My beloved, the man who has proven to be my best advisor and advocate, told me fairly unequivocally that I was NOT going to take that job, that I should stop being a chicken and make the leap. I cannot say enough nice things about this man I married. He's just simply the best. It still took me a few more weeks for all of the right pieces to click into place, but there was definitely an "Aha!" moment where I knew with complete certainty that this is the moment that I take a HUGE breath, make a wish, and blow out the candles on my former career.
I've been up front about the struggle to strike a healthy work/blog/life balance. For the last few years, I've worked during the week in an office, created/styled/shot projects/photo shoots/events on the weekends while the Minnow napped, and then edited photos and wrote copy after she went to bed on weeknights. I typically slept about four hours a night. It was... a lot. I told myself over and over and over that good things come to those who hustle.
Good things have ARRIVED.
I'm so very grateful to have the opportunity to work with such brilliant partners, clients and friends. I can't wait to see what this new adventure brings, the paths I'll travel down, and what's around the bend for Minnow + Co.
I'm also VERY excited that I'll finally be able to start posting regularly on Minnow + Co., which has been so sadly neglected for the past year. Being a contributor for DIY Network's Made + Remade has been a huge part of me being able to make the leap for self-employement, so the paying gig has gotten front seat (shotgun!) status for the past year. But now that I have some more free time (though I'll admit - it's filling up FAST), I'm excited to do some more features here on Minnow + Co.
Thank you so much for following along - I know it hasn't always been a hopping scene here on the site, but fingers crossed, it will be much more lively in the weeks and months to come.
And stay tuned - there are SO MANY more secrets to be revealed very soon!!!!
